How to Become a Spirit Pilot

Here's how to become a Spirit pilot through the Spirit Career Track.

  1. Airline Career Pilot Program

    Enroll in ATP Flight School's Airline Career Pilot Program and earn an FAA commercial multi-engine pilot certificate and instrument rating.

  2. Flight Instructor Job

    Build experience as an ATP flight instructor after graduating to qualify for airline hiring minimums.

  3. Spirit Interview

    At 500 hours total flight time, recommended instructors interview with Spirit.

  4. Jet Transition & ATP CTP Course

    Upon reaching 1,500 hours, complete a jet transition program and ATP CTP course with ATP, utilizing a full-motion Airbus A320 simulator training.

  5. Spirit Pilot

    Transition to Spirit and begin flying as a First Officer.

Your journey to becoming a Spirit pilot starts at ATP Flight School. Here's how to participate in the Spirit Career Track and become a Spirit First Officer.

  1. Step 1

    Airline Career Pilot Program

    Enroll in the Airline Career Pilot Program and earn an FAA commercial multi-engine pilot certificate and instrument rating, with flight instructor certificates.

  2. Step 2

    Flight Instructor Job

    Join ATP as a flight instructor after graduating and build flight experience to qualify for airline hiring minimums.

  3. Step 3

    Interview With Spirit

    At 500 hours total flight time, recommended instructors interview with Spirit. After the candidate selection and interview process with Spirit, applicants receive a Conditional Offer of Employment and continue working towards 1,500 hours of flight experience with ATP.

  4. Step 4

    Complete Jet Transition & ATP CTP

    Before transitioning to Spirit, pilots must complete a jet transition program and ATP CTP. The tailored two-week transition course includes Airbus A320 full-motion simulator experience, making it an essential investment for pilots as they prepare for their Spirit training and career.

    Spirit Pilot
